clear and a great resource if you're looking at period furniture

This is a big book and still relevant
Over 380 pages and at least 300 photos. Many are color and full page while the rest are usually half of the page. Photos are professional, clear and a great resource if you're looking at period furniture.
Write up on each item gives overall dimensions, donor and provenance information and a paragraph or two about the item as well as info on similar items. Furniture is mostly "High-Style" (Newport, Philly, New York) and not much on American folk furniture like Pennsylvania Dutch.
This is actually Vol II of the books that MMA published. As good as this volumne is the first one (which was published much later) is way better. It's bigger (464 pages) there's more and larger color photos, more comprehensive dimensions (sizes of leg stock and other components) and far less discussion on provenance.
The other book (American Furniture in The Metropolitan Museum of Art: I. Early Colonial Period: The Seventeenth-Century and William and Mary Styles) is by Frances Gruber Safford the Associate Curator in the Department of American Decorative Arts at The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
